Betaine and Sprint Power: The Research Behind the Ingredient

Betaine, also called trimethylglycine or TMG, is one of the individually listed ingredients in our pre-workout. It participates in methyl-group transfer and helps cells regulate their fluid balance.

Those biological roles have prompted exercise research. Our Sweet Peach formula includes 1,500 mg betaine per labeled serving; a small cycling study offers a specific example of what researchers have tested.

A study of repeated cycling sprints

In a randomized, double-blind crossover trial, 16 recreationally active participants completed cycling-sprint tests after a week of a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage with or without betaine. The betaine condition supplied about 2,500 mg per day, with a washout between conditions.

The study reported higher sprint-power measures with betaine. Compared with placebo, average peak power increased by 3.4% and maximum peak power by 3.8% under the test conditions.

What sprint power tells you

Power describes how quickly work is performed. A sprint test measures a different outcome from muscle size, soreness or readiness to train again the next day. The positive power result is interesting without being extended to every possible recovery or muscle-growth benefit.

The study was small and used a defined drink and daily schedule. Its 2,500 mg daily amount also differs from the 1,500 mg in our serving.

Our betaine amount within the scoop

Sweet Peach combines betaine with 3,000 mg L-citrulline, 2,500 mg beta-alanine and 1,000 mg taurine, among the other dietary ingredients. Guarana supplies the formula's 220 mg caffeine.

Listing these amounts separately lets you explore each ingredient's role. It also keeps the product directions clear: the research schedule for an isolated ingredient is not a reason to take extra scoops of the complete formula.

Keep the result connected to the exercise

If power is part of your training goal, use the measurements in your program to follow progress. A study provides context for the ingredient; your planned work gives the session its structure.
